Label Material Families Compared Side by Side
Paper or film — find your row, then name it in your quote.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semigloss paper | Paper | Low | Low | Low — laminate helps | Not rated | Dry goods boxes, shelf-stable jars |
| Coated paper | Paper | Low | Medium | Low — laminate helps | Not rated | Boxes, bags, indoor retail |
| Kraft paper | Paper | Low | Low | Low — laminate helps | Not rated | Natural and organic brand packaging |
| White BOPP | Film | High | High | High — stretches, will not tear | 6–12 months | Beverage bottles, food tubs, cosmetics |
| Clear BOPP | Film | High | High | High — stretches, will not tear | 6–12 months | “No-label” looks on glass and PET |
| PET film | Film | Very high | Very high | Very high | 2–3 years | Industrial, outdoor, hot filling |

Every row is a stock option you can name in your quote.
Every Label Is a Three-Layer Material Build
A label material is never one sheet: we specify it as a build of facestock, adhesive, and liner, with each layer chosen for your container and application line.
The printed layer decides appearance
Gloss or matte, white or clear, paper or film — this layer carries your ink, your finish, and your first impression on the shelf.
- Family
- Color
- Finish
- Print process
The adhesive layer decides survival
Permanent, removable, or cold-temperature — matched to your surface energy and environment, because the right facestock with the wrong glue still fails.
- Adhesive type
- Surface energy
- Temperature range
- Removability
The liner layer decides machine readiness
Paper or film liner, core size, unwind direction — invisible in your hand, decisive on your applicator line.
- Liner type
- Core size
- Unwind direction
- Max roll OD
Match each layer to one decision: look, grip, and run. Blank roll stock for resale is not part of this program.
Match Label Material to Your Toughest Condition
Find the condition your product actually lives in. Each card names the material build that holds up — so a durable label starts with the environment, not a guess.
Fridge & Condensation
Bottles sweating in coolers and cold chain doors.
White or clear BOPP + permanent adhesive
Ice-Bath Immersion
Wine, spirits, and drinks parked in ice for hours.
BOPP or PET film + waterproof label materials
Oils & Sauces
Cooking oil, sauces, lotions that attack print and edges.
Film facestock + oil-resistant ink
Freezer & Deep Cold
Frozen food, cold application on frosty surfaces.
Cold-temp adhesive + film facestock
Squeeze & Flex
Bottles and tubes that flex hundreds of times.
Flexible PE film for squeeze walls
Facestocks You Can Specify by Name
We print custom labels across paper facestocks — semigloss, coated, and kraft — and film facestocks, including white BOPP, clear BOPP, PET, and PE, matched to your container and conditions.
Semigloss Paper
The cost baseline for dry, indoor products with crisp full-color print.
Typical: shelf-stable jars and boxes
custom paper labels →
Coated Paper
Smoother surface for finer detail and richer color than plain stock.
Typical: premium dry goods, retail boxes
Kraft Paper
Unbleached, tactile, natural-positioned — the eco-shelf look.
Typical: organic and handmade brands
kraft label materials →
White BOPP
The workhorse film — waterproof, oil-proof, and tear-resistant for moist products.
Typical: beverages, food tubs, bath and beauty
MDO film vs standard BOPP →
Clear BOPP
Invisible-carrier look that prints like it is on the container itself.
Typical: glass and PET “no-label” designs
PET Film
The durability pick — heat, chemicals, and multi-year outdoor hold-out.
Typical: industrial, hot-fill, outdoor
PE Film
Soft and conformable, so the label flexes with squeeze walls instead of flagging.
Typical: squeeze bottles, flexible packs
Each facestock in the cards above is a stock option you can name in your quote. Fabric sew-in and specialty industrial facestocks sit outside this program.
Adhesive Matched to Your Surface Energy
Adhesives are matched to the environment your label faces — permanent, removable, and cold-temperature options specified against your surface and temperature range.
High-energy surfaces
Glass, metal, PET bottles — most adhesives bond well.
Medium-energy surfaces
HDPE and rigid PP containers — standard films with matched glue.
Low-energy surfaces
PE drums, powder-coated metal — high-tack adhesive required.
Permanent
The default for products that should never shed their label — washdown, moisture, and repeated handling included.
Fits: beverage, food, cosmetics
Removable
Clean peel for promotions, glassware returns, and work-in-process tracking that must not leave residue.
Fits: promos, returnable containers
Cold-Temperature
Applied and service-proven in freezers and cold rooms where standard glue turns brittle and lets go.
Fits: frozen and chilled foods
High-Tack for LSE
Aggressive bond for low-energy plastics and powder-coated surfaces that shrug off ordinary adhesive.
Fits: PE drums, coated metal
Surface energy and temperature range drive the adhesive call. We confirm final adhesive selection on your actual container.
Material Performance, Proven Before Printing
A material spec is only as good as its verification. Three checkpoints stand between your approval and the production line.
Proof on Your Material
Your design printed on the actual facestock with production inks — color and finish you can hold, not a screen estimate.
Delta E Color Control
Color measured against standard on the scanning bench, so batch one and batch fifty stay the same brand color.
Batch Color Report
A color report and optical scan record travel with every shipment — evidence your QC can file, not promises.
Before mass production, a printed proof on your actual material shows the real color and finish, color is controlled to a Delta E standard, and a color report travels with every batch.
Proofs run on the production press with production inks. Turnaround counts from artwork approval and excludes international shipping.
Rolls and Cores Ready for Your Line
Your material choice has to survive the applicator, not just the shelf. We lock roll specs before we print.
Rolls come on 3-inch, 2-inch, and 1-inch cores, checked against a database of more than 127 applicator profiles before we print.
- Applicator make and model
- Roll diameter and maximum OD
- Unwind direction for your line
- Black mark or sensor gap layout
Send your applicator model, roll diameter, unwind direction, and max OD. Large-core reels for Zebra industrial printers are available on request — see our 1-inch vs 3-inch cores guide.
One Factory Prints Every Material
Material label printing without the handoffs: the factory that helps you choose the facestock is the factory that runs your material on press.

Inspect & Pack
Factory-direct label material printing from China — wholesale volumes and export paperwork handled in-house. Full equipment detail on our label production capabilities page.
Compliance That Clears First-Round Checks
The documents a new supplier gets asked for in the first email — already in place.
- ISO 9001 — quality management from material intake to batch release
- FSC-Certified Papers — chain-of-custody options for fiber reporting
- Free Pre-Press Audit — engineers check your file before printing, no charge
- US & EU Export-Ready — customs documentation for both markets
Test Real Material Before You Commit
Three steps from “maybe” to mass production — with real material in your hands at step two.
Send Your Container
Container photos or samples, the conditions it faces, and your quantity range — that is enough to start.
Hold the Proof
A printed proof from $60 on your actual material with production inks — color, finish, and feel before you commit a run.
Approve and Print
Standard turnaround runs 4–5 working days after artwork approval, with air freight available when your launch date is tight.
Label Material Questions, Answered
The eight questions to settle before you choose a material — short answers, no fine print.
Send Your Container, Get a Material Plan
Tell us what the label has to survive. You get a facestock, adhesive, and roll spec back — with pricing that reflects your real quantity.
What to prepare:
- Container type and surface material
- Conditions: water, oil, cold, UV, or flex
- Quantity and how many designs
- Roll or sheet, plus applicator model if machine-applied
- Adhesive preference — or write “need advice”
- Artwork status — finished file or need layout support
